Upcoming TCN’s Members Book and Research Seminars

Migrant Muslim women in Northern Ireland: Harnessing Care to Achieve Belonging and Emplacement. Book Seminar by Amanda Lubit PhD

The lives of migrant Muslim women in divided, post-conflict Northern Ireland, both before and during the pandemic, are full of diverse stories and experiences of care, belonging and emplacement. Living in a hostile immigration environment, these women engage with creative forms of care that facilitation connections with one another, their neighbors and organisations. These forms of care will be explored through discussions of ethnic minority associations, religious spaces, and women-only groups. This presentation is based upon the newly published, open access book, Life as a Migrant Muslim Woman in Sectarian Northern Ireland: An Exploration of Gender, Visibility, Movement and Placemaking (Berghahn Books)

War, Workforce, and Policy: The Case for Nurse Staffing Mandates. Research Seminar by Kateryna Ostrovska.

Russia’s full-scale invasion has severely strained Ukraine’s health system, disrupting infrastructure, shifting patient profiles, increasing case complexity, and altering service use, delivery, governance, financing, workforce dynamics, and education. These pressures signal systemic shifts requiring integrated, cross-sector responses rather than fragmented interventions. The aim of this analysis was to build evidence for decision-makers in Ukraine as they consider a nurse-to-patient staffing mandate, drawing primarily on U.S. experience with complementary international evidence to assess applicability under wartime and postwar conditions. The resulting insights on access, safety, costs, and workforce supply may be relevant in other contexts preparing to introduce staffing mandates.

Send your proposal!

We are open to your suggestions for research seminars. You can address them to Member’s Panel coordinators Dr. Gülçin Con Wright (gulcin.con@tedu.edu.tr) and Dr. Rosie Read (rread@bournemouth.ac.uk)

Upcoming TCN Writing Workshops

This workshop provides a friendly space and protected time for writing. It is organised by the Member’s Panel coordinators and Prof. Serena Vicario. This activity is designed for researchers and students who are conducting their research in social care or related topics and are producing written outputs of any type (journal articles, PhD thesis, posters, grant applications, ethics approval, CVs, etc.). During the group, participants may: share experiences and knowledge around their topics, discuss challenges around the writing, provide and receive critical feedback on their written output, built relationships potentially leading to future collaborations. In the next months, the sessions may also represent for the participants a supportive and informed environment to progress towards the submission of the conference papers for the 2025 Transforming Care Conference (June 25-27, Helsinki).

The sessions will be held online and last 3 hours. The schedule will be the following:

10.30-10.45 | Greeting and introductions. Share goals for the work session

10.45-12.00 | Work on individual projects: writing, editing, reading, making citations, etc.

12.00-12.15 | Comfort break. Participants can socialise, connect and informally discuss their work between them.

12.15-13.15 | Work on individual projects

13.15-13.30 | Reflections on how the session went. Optionally, participants may share what the next step in their process is.

There are only a limited number of seats available on a first-come, first-served basis. We plan to hold additional writing workshops based on demand from TCN members.

Register to the upcoming sessions!

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

We look forward to your participation!

About the Member’s Panel

One of the goals of Transforming Care Network is to foster an open and participatory environment that effectively articulates and advances the needs and engagement of its members. With this purpose in mind, the TCN Members’ Panel was initiated earlier this year.

The Members’ Panel aims to provide a platform for TCN members to exchange ideas and experiences about research and publishing, as well as share their work with others. The Panel can also provide input on how to advance the Transforming Care Network and improve the quality and organisation of the conferences. The Panel activities are member-based and member-driven, and are mainly announced via the TCN Mailing list, so do sign up for this, see further below.

We are very happy that Dr. Gülçin Con Wright and Dr. Rosie Read have agreed to act as coordinators of the TCN Members’ Panel. They can be reached here:
gulcin.con@tedu.edu.tr and rread@bournemouth.ac.uk.
